Exhibiting alongside Andy Warhol during the heyday of the American Pop Art movement in the 1960s but never really getting her full credit and appreciation until recently, Kusama has always been committed to placing her paper cut outs of dots on everything she could could: moving taxis, her own body, buildings. Today her portfolio and the museum acclaim her work has reached (finally) create space to discuss the intersection of art and mental health. I think we are lucky to have a Yayoi Kusama sculpture here in Bermuda. We have the pleasure of experiencing her alternative perspective of the world. The collectors own many of her pumpkins in different sizes and color arrangements, as much an indication of the pleasure they find in her work as their investment in the narrative of contemporary wellness.
